A portrait by Mary Adore Coloney is a museum-quality
work of fine art. Her trademark style is Prismatic
Realism, where important
elements of the client's life--family, favorite places and activities,
beloved animals, special moments--are incorporated into the
portrait. For clients who prefer a traditional formal portrait,
Ms. Coloney renders a speaking likeness in classic realism.
She also welcomes challenging and novel commissions. Some clients
request a dreamscape portrait, perhaps in another time or with
family members no longer living. Some prefer their portraits
in sepia tones or in bright colors. Others have their portraits
painted as part of a mural or in a pastiche of a famous work
of art. Clients often include family pets in their portraits.
The most important requirement of a portrait is that it portrays
you in the way that is right for you.
When you commission a portrait, Ms. Coloney prefers to meet
with you for a private sitting. She wants to learn as much as
she possibly can about you, because knowing the person is the
key to a good portrait. When her clients are children she feels
that it's particularly important to give them time to be comfortable
and to be themselves. She makes sketches from life and takes
hundreds of photographs. She talks with you about the size,
style, pose, and color theme, and she reviews the photographs
with you. When she goes to her studio she draws all of this
together to create a portrait that represents not only your
appearance, but your essence. You may choose a painting on canvas
or an oil drawing on hand-laid paper-or even a mural. The size
and style are up to you. If you prefer not to meet for a sitting,
Ms. Coloney will work from photographs and videos supplied by
you, and you can work together by telephone, fax, and e-mail. |
